Types of Blood Diseases
Blood diseases are the incurable disease that can be very harmful and life threatening. Most people who have blood diseases should live with it for the rest of their life. The diseases can be controlled, but they can’t be cured. It would be great to find more information about these diseases, so we can make prevention or minimize the risk. As we all know, our blood consists of some cells that has it’s own unique function. The problems with blood diseases are usually come from the interactions or production of these blood cells. Here are the three blood components:
Red blood cells which duty is to transfer oxygen to the whole body’s tissues.
- White blood cells which duty is to fight the infections.
- Platelets which will help the blood clot process.
- Blood Diseases that Affects the Red Blood Cells.
Blood diseases could affect each of the blood cells, including the red blood cells. Some of the diseases include:
Anemia: Low number of red blood cells. The mild anemia level is usually showing no symptoms, but the severe one could cause some symptoms like pale skin, fatigue and shortness of breath. Anemia includes iron-deficiency anemia. Iron is a major element of red blood cells. The low iron due to the menstruation is the common cause of this problem.
Thalassemia: This is one of the genetic blood diseases. The disease mostly affects people with Mediterranean heritage. Usually it comes without symptoms and it does not need any treatments, However, in the severe condition, it would need blood transfusion.
Malaria: Malaria is transferred by mosquito bite that transmit parasite. The blood cells will rupture and cause fever, chills and even organ damage. This is one of the most common disease in Africa.
Blood Diseases that Affect White Blood Cells
Lymphoma; This is a form of cancer that affects the lymph system. The white blood cells turn to be malignant. It multiplies and spreads abnormally. There are two types f lymphoma, which are Hodgkin’s lymphoma and non-Hodkin’s lymphoma. The disease should be treated by chemotherapy and radiation.
Leukimia: This is a form of blood cancer condition in which the white blood cells turn to be malignant and multiple inside the bone marrow. This is one of the acute and chronic blood diseases. The solutions are chemotherapy and stem cell transplantation.
Myelodysplastic syndrome: One of the blood diseases that included as a cancer. It affects the bone marrow. The progress of this disease is quite slow, but it can transform into severe leukemia in any time. This cancer is not incurable disease because in young people, stem cell transplant can be the solution.
Blood Diseases that Affect Plasma Cells
Multile Myeloma: This is another blood cancer blood diseases when the plasma cells become malignant. The cell could multiply and spread, then cause organ damage.
Deep venous thrombosis: The condition when there is a blood clot in the deep vein. Usually it happens on the leg. It can be dangerous because the deep venous thrombosis can reach though the heat and lungs, then cause pulmonary embolism. It might look less dangerous, but actually it can be one of the life threatening blood diseases.
